The Myrtle Tree Summary

The Myrtle Tree by Kaber Barras

In the mountains of southern Turkey, twenty-first century western espionage clashes with ancient Persian biblical tales, for there are those who believe 'the special one' walks amongst us...

After working with the Special Boat Service for numerous years, Ed Bennett is finally retired and headed for a well-earned vacation to a Turkish resort with his fiancee, Esther. They're ready to relax, but only a few days into their stay, Ed is horrified to discover Esther has been abducted by unknowns. It could be something to do with her job as a nuclear engineer and computer specialist working in the British nuclear industry, but it's clear that whatever their reasons, the kidnappers aren't after money.

In a race against time, Ed pursues the kidnappers, finding himself constantly blocked by American, Israeli, Russian and UK governments for unknown reasons. However, with help from his ex-boss and a reporter, the mystery surrounding Esther's disappearance slowly unravels and a deadly computer virus comes to the fore.

Not only that, but Ed is shocked to learn that a group of extreme believers of the old Persian biblical tales believe that Esther is their 'Special One' and that only she can prevent the virus from succeeding in its deadly mission.

With enemies not opposed to murder, Ed discovers that he is a mere pawn piece on this international chess board and he will have to move with skill before his queen is taken and it's checkmate for them both.
