The story of lonely Ben, deserted by his mother and his growing friendship with the mystery girl Elf, hiding out from her mother, until she can find her sailor father. Keeping their friendship a secret presents its problems for Ben. The author also wrote "Flambards" and "Who Sir Me Sir".
