Ian Fletcher was born in London in 1957. His first book, In Hell Before Daylight, was published in 1984 since when he has written nine others including The Waters of Oblivion, Craufurd's Light Division, Gentlemen's Sons, Fields of Fire, Wellington's Foot Guards, Wellington's Regiments and Galloping at Everything. He has also edited Letters from the Front, a collection of First World War letters, A Guards Officer in the Peninsula War, For King and Country and The Peninsular War: Aspects of the Struggle for the Iberian Peninsula. He runs Ian Fletcher Battlefield Tours (www.ifbt.co.uk), a company specializing in pre-20th-century battlefield visits and regularly escorts clients to the Iberian Peninsula. He is a Fellow of the International Napoleonic Society and a member of the British Commission for Military History
