The Return of Sexton Blake Summary

The Return of Sexton Blake by George Mann

As brilliant as Sherlock Holmes, as daring as James Bond, he was the Jack Reacher of his day and now Sexton Blake is back!

Created in 1893 - six years after rival Sherlock Holmes first appeared in print - Sexton Blake went on to become a publishing phenomenon, appearing in 4,000 stories told written and drawn by over 200 different writers and artists and syndicated around the world. And now he is reborn!

Written by Chris Lowder (Dan Dare, Judge Dredd) and illustrated by Mike Dorey (Hellman of Hammerforce), presented here for the very first time in its full glory is the last Sexton Blake comic strip, originally published under the title Victor Drago.

Then the adventure detective is back in action as George Mann (Doctor Who, Star Wars Adventures) and Jimmy Broxton (Hope, Doctor Who) brings us the first new Sexton Blake comic in decades!

Meanwhile, Philip K. Dick Award winning writer Mark Hodder (The Burton & Swinburne Adventures) introduces Blake to a new audience and Karl Stock (Thrill-Power Overload: Forty Years of 2000 AD) interviews the writers and artists.

About George Mann

George Mann is the Sunday Times bestselling author of the Newbury & Hobbes Victorian mystery series, as well as four novels about a 1920s vigilante known as The Ghost. He's also written bestselling Doctor Who novels, new adventures for Sherlock Holmes and the supernatural crime series, Wychwood. His comic writing includes extensive work on Doctor Who, Dark Souls, Warhammer 40,000, Project Blue Book and Newbury & Hobbes, as well as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for younger readers.

Chris Lowder was assistant editor of Thunder, where he created Adam Eterno. He wrote for Valiant, Battle, Action, The House of Hammer, Starlord, Tornado and 2000 AD.

Karl Stock has written Tharg's Future Shocks for 2000 AD, Dredd prose fiction for the Judge Dredd Megazine and strips including Sniper Elite and Death Wish for Battle, The Vigilant and Cor! & Buster, as well as interviews and features about comics for the Judge Dredd Megazine, Tripwire, Comic Heroes and more. He is the co-author of the 40th anniversary edition of Thrill-Power Overload, 2000AD's official history, and lives in Scotland.

Mark Hodder is the author of the Philip K. Dick Award-winning novel The Strange Affair of Spring-Heeled Jack and its seven sequels, and of the first officially sanctioned Sexton Blake novel to have been published in nearly half a century (he created and maintains Blakiana: The Sexton Blake Resource). He also writes short stories, flash fiction and vignettes.

Mike Dorey joined 2000 AD following its merger with rival action comic Tornado, where he pencilled Victor Drago. Following his move to greener pastures, he pencilled several Future Shocks and a Time Twister, as well as M.A.C.H. 0, M.A.C.H. 1, Ro-Busters, Invasion!, Rogue Trooper and Tharg the Mighty.

When not hard at work desperately trying to make sense of Guy Adams' mind bending scripts for the new series of Hope, dabbling in the Dredd-Verse for the Judge Dredd Megazine, or willing various creator owned projects into existence by the power of thought alone, Jimmy Broxton can be found drinking fine Hellenic beers and driving German sports cars, but not necessarily in that order. He lives in Middle England, with too many books, not enough cats.
