Much has been written about the horrors of the First World War, however this is the first book to offer an overview of the more than 50 different cultures present in Flanders during the War. As the British and the French had mobilised their colonial empires, the troops originated from five continents and even included Maoris and Native Americans. The contributions by international experts and many hundreds of pictures not only provide an insight into the multicultural society in the front region of 1914-1918, but also give a surprising outlook on the war and conflict as seen through the eyes of all these cultures.
