David Marsh's antiquarian bookshop in the cathedral town of Pitsbury never gets any trade because of the off-putting squat at the bottom of his perfect Tudor street. When news comes that the squat is to be pulled down, he is thrilled - until he discovers what is to replace it.

Catherine Feeny gained a post-graduate degree at an American university, then returned to England where she restored and set up an alternative theatre in Canterbury. She lived in France for several years with her partner and a deaf parrot, teaching English. After living Brighton for several years she is now in Spain.
