Summary
Jack has been unfaithful, and Ruth also tries adultery, but doesn't like it - all she wants to do is repair their marriage. Then, on a free trip to South Africa they find, as pawns in life's great chess game, that nothing is as they expect. The author won the Booker Prize for "The Elected Member".
