What's it Like to Live in Jamaica? Summary

What's it Like to Live in Jamaica? by Alison Brownlie

Find out what the landscape, weather, transport, farming, food, shopping, houses, working life, festivals and having fun is like in Jamaica. This work includes a large, colour map of Jamaica with an inset map showing its position in the world. Unfamiliar words are in bold and can be found in the glossary at the back of the book. A 'scrapbook' spread shows things that children might collect from that country to put in a scrapbook, such as tickets, coins and postcards. There is a small list of words peculiar to Jamaica, which children might come across if they were to visit there.

What's it Like to Live in Jamaica? Reviews

- Most children only glimpse other countries on brief holidays, without exposure to the inhabitants' real lives. This series goes a long way to filling this knowledge gap....Extra value comes from a glossary... and a simple index - perfect for a child beginning to learn how to use information books.' - The Guardian's Children's Book Supplement - Packed with a whole range of colourful images this book is an ideal introduction to life in Jamaica. Having written a similar series a few years ago I know how important it is to build up a relationship between the text and illustrations, something this book does perfectly. I particularly like the scrapbook spread... the excellent pictures provide an insight into everyday life. Ideal for use with KS1 children, it will also prove an asset during the literacy hour. An excellent addition to any library... - School Librarian
