Roy Chester retired as the Proudman Professor of Oceanography in the department of Earth and Ocean Sciences in 2001. During his career he served on a variety of committees, attended many conferences and published widely. He is the author of over 125 papers in the mainstream scientific literature, co-edited a textbook and several advanced series, and as a single author, wrote Marine Geochemistry. Outside his academic work, Roy has been involved in community work. He has been a member of his local Round Table and is still a member of the Rotary Club. He also served as a lay member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal for over 25 years.
