Ian Ashbridge is a novelist and historian who has established himself as an authority on the criminal history of Cumbria and Carlisle. His painstaking research into crime and vice has resulted in two collections of cases - Cumbrian Crime from a Social Perspective 1834-1894 and Cumbrian Crime in the Twentieth Century - as well as the novel Death Came Suddenly: A Northern Murder Mystery. Ian Ashbridge was born in Carlisle.
