A Carriage For The Midwife Zusammenfassung

A Carriage For The Midwife Maggie Bennett

Born into the squalor of the Ash-Pits, young Susan Lucket is determined to raise herself above the rural poverty of eighteenth-century Hampshire. Her natural talent for midwifery points her way forward, for all women share the pain and peril of childbirth, whether in manor house or hovel. But when Edward Calthorpe, youngest son of a privileged landowner, offers her marriage, the memory of her terrible childhood returns to haunt her. And when Edward's wayward brother seduces little Polly, her beloved younger sister - and then betrays her in the most brutal of ways - Susan faces losing everything she has struggled for. Does she still have the strength to fight for her right to happiness?

Über Maggie Bennett

Maggie Bennett was born in Hampshire. When she left school at eighteen she started general nursing training and, after a year as a staff nurse, she went on to train as a midwife. Her career was interrupted by marriage at thirty-five, and she moved to Manchester where her two daughters were born; she later returned to work as a midwife until her retirement in 1991. Having been an avid reader and scribbler all her life, she took a correspondence course in creative writing after her husband's death in 1983, and started writing articles and short stories. A Carriage for the Midwife is her third novel.
