Ice hockey in Britain has been moving from suburban ice rinks to big-city arenas, experiencing an explosion in popularity and building up an army of devoted supporters. However the fast pace of change has not been without costs. Now run by businesmen rather than amateurs, some loyal fans have been alienated by what they see as a betrayal of the game's grass roots traditions. Liam Sluyter talked to coaches, players, fans and officials to gain a sense of the way in which British ice hockey has changed in recent years. This book provides an account of where the sport finds itself in the late 1990s.
