John Pitts attempts to synthesise and transcend the 'Welfare v. Justice Debate', and offers an amusing and readable introduction to work with young offenders which moves beyond the pessimism of radical non-intervention into the optimism of work which attempts to repair the social relationships which are fractured by crime.
