Beginning with her father's death, the author of this book takes an autobiographical look at the traumas and outstanding events that make up the early years of her life. Brought up by her strict Scottish father and her unhappy, unconventional mother, Jill Tweedie instinctively knew that she didn't want to be either "nice" or "respectable".
