Zusammenfassung

Part of a two-volume study of synoptic meteorology and dynamic meteorology, this work includes coverage of the formation, motion, and climatology of extratropical weather systems in the context of quasi-geostrophic theory and IPV thinking, and the formation and structure of fronts and jets.

Synoptic-Dynamic Meteorology in Midlatitudes: Volume II: Observations and Theory of Weather Systems Zusammenfassung

Synoptic-Dynamic Meteorology in Midlatitudes: Volume II: Observations and Theory of Weather Systems Howard B. Bluestein (Professor of Meteorology, Professor of Meteorology, University of Oklahoma)

Synoptic meteorology, the study of large scale weather systems and forecasting using observation, and dynamic meteorology, the study of the laws of physics involved in air movement, are treated in this major new text in two volumes. Volume I covers kinematics, elementary atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics, and the principles of quasi-geostrophic theory; there is also an introduction to modern observing systems, including Doppler radar, wind profilers, and navigation-aid sondes. Volume II covers the formation, motion, and climatology of extratropical weather systems in the context of quasi-geostrophic theory and IPV thinking, the formation and structure of fronts and jets, applications of semi-geostrophic theory, and the observed structure and dynamics of precipitation systems in midlatitudes.

Synoptic-Dynamic Meteorology in Midlatitudes: Volume II: Observations and Theory of Weather Systems Bewertungen

'there is a wealth of up-to-date material in this volume, both observational and analytical ... I would recommend the volume to anyone interested in or working in synoptic meteorology, particularly forecasters.' T. Davies, Meteorological Office, Bracknell, Journal of Atmospheric and Terrestrial Physics, Vol. 56, No. 11, 1994
