Anne was born and raised in Northumberland and educated at Whitley Bay Grammar School before commencing training as a nurse at Newcastle General Hospital, qualifying in 1956. Married with two children and five grandchildren she had to move house on several occasions, due to her husband's work, but has resided in Epping, Essex for many years. Her interests include singing in choirs and amateur operatic societies, following some voice training, until severe hearing loss curtailed performances. An avid reader with a keen interest in the history of warfare, she has toured many battlefields in France and Belgium and treasures her friendship with Lucienne Lerch, in Alsace. A friendship which arose during a school exchange when they were sixteen, encouraged by their respective fathers, who each served and survived both world wars. Now retired she works with the Pastoral Care Team at St. Michael's Church, Theydon Mount, with Stapleford Tawney. She started writing poetry following a very emotional encounter during a battlefield tour of the D-Day landing sites, which led to this collection of poems.
