Press Release: 02.09.2019 - A new chapter for World of Books Group

Graham Bell appointed Chief Executive Officer

After three years running World of Books Group as CEO, following eight years as Managing Director, Stephen Boobyer passes the Chief Executive Officer baton to Graham Bell, the Group’s current Chief Financial and Operating Officer.

The Group is in great shape. We are achieving our ambitious growth targets and delivering on our purpose of supporting charities and protecting the planet. Following investment in the business by Bridges Fund Management in 2016, it has always been our intention that my role would transition at this point in our business plan. Graham joined World of Books Group two and a half years ago. During that time, he has been instrumental in helping transform the business in many areas. Together with the Leadership Team, he will bring a fresh approach and will continue to use his skills, knowledge and energy to lead the business into a new phase of development. Graham is passionate about continuing the success of this business, and I have no doubt that he will continue to pioneer great ideas. [Stephen Boobyer]

It’s a huge honour to take over from Stephen as CEO on 1st September. World of Books Group has an exciting future and we have big plans to achieve our vision of becoming the largest seller of used books in the world while helping people reuse and recycle for less, through innovation and technology. [Graham Bell]

Current Group Financial Controller, Daniel Guttridge will be stepping up to become Finance Director.

Stephen Boobyer moves into a new role of Deputy Chairman.

Changes take effect from 1st September 2019.

Notes for Editors

World of Books is the UK’s largest seller of used books online, a circular economy company that sells quality used books at competitive prices to millions of customers worldwide each year. Established by a group of dedicated book lovers, with an ethos to do good, over the past 10 years World of Books has seen its inventory grow from 1,000 books to over 3 million in stock. They are pioneers in the re-use and recycling of unwanted books, recycling about 80 million books each year, equivalent to 500,000 trees

World of Books purchases significant volumes of donated books from UK charities – boosting revenues for these good causes and saving them waste disposal costs. This business model has generated over £12m for UK charities in the last 5 years.

World of Books Group is comprised of three direct-to-consumer e-commerce businesses (World of Books, World of Rare Books and Ziffit) supported by their own technology.
