Assassins Apprentice Summary

Assassins Apprentice (The Farseer Trilogy, Book 1) by Robin Hobb

A gorgeously illustrated anniversary edition of the book that launched the epic Farseer Trilogy, featuring a new foreword by Robin Hobb and full-colour illustrations.

Fantasy as it ought to be written
George R.R. Martin

Twenty-five years ago, Robin Hobbs first novel featuring FitzChivalry Farseer and his mysterious, often maddening, friend the Fool struck like a bolt of brilliant lightning. Thus began a beloved saga spanning multiple series, full of adventure, magic, and sinister plots. To celebrate a quarter century of wonder, this special edition of Assassins Apprentice presents a modern classic as its never been seen before: with eleven beautiful full-colour illustrations by Magali Villeneuve.

Young Fitz is the bastard son of the noble Prince Chivalry, raised in the shadow of the royal court by his fathers gruff stableman. He is treated as an outcast by all the royalty except the devious King Shrewd, who has him secretly tutored in the arts of the assassin. For in Fitzs blood runs the magic Skill and the darker knowledge of a child raised with the stable hounds and rejected by his family.

As barbarous raiders ravage the coasts, Fitz is growing to manhood. Soon he will face his first dangerous, soul-shattering mission. And though some regard him as a threat to the throne, he may just be the key to the survival of the kingdom.

Assassins Apprentice Reviews

PRAISE FOR ROBIN HOBB:

Every new Robin Hobb novel is a cause for celebration. Along with millions of her other fans, I delight in every visit to the Six Duchies, the Rain Wilds, and the Out Islands, and can't wait to see where she'll take me next
George R.R. Martin

'Hobb is one of the great modern fantasy writers what makes her novels as addictive as morphine is not just their imaginative brilliance but the way her characters are compromised and manipulated by politics'
THE TIMES

'Hobb is superb, spinning wonderful characters and plots from pure imagination'
Conn Iggulden

A little slice of heaven

About Robin Hobb

Robin Hobb is one of the worlds finest writers of epic fiction. She was born in California in 1952 but raised in Alaska, where she learned how to raise a wolf cub, to skin a moose and to survive in the wilderness. When she married a fisherman who fished herring and the Kodiak salmon-run for half the year, these skills would stand her in good stead. She raised her family, ran a smallholding, delivered post to her remote community, all at the same time as writing stories and novels. She succeeded on all fronts, raising four children and becoming an internationally best-selling writer. She lives in Tacoma, Washington State.
