Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes by Robert Louis Stevenson
This book is part of the Everyman series which has been re-set with wide margins and easy-to-read type. It includes a selection of Stevenson's travel writing, reflecting his development both as a writer and an observer of life. Stevenson's first book, An Inland Voyage, is an account of a journey by canoe along the canals and rivers of Belgium and France. Travels With a Donkey follows a tour of the Cevennes in the company of Modestine, a donkey whose character competes with the French countryside for the reader's attention. Finally, The Silverado Squatters recalls Stevenson's honeymoon in a log cabin amid a mining community in the mountains of San Francisco.
