The characters Parker recounts include: an unstable young lifer with the football skills of Paul Gascoigne; the couple whose active sex life lands them in the chokey; the child sex offender who is freely allowed to paddle on the beach; the Bedouin double murderer whose terrible end goes unnoticed; and Jane, the education officer, whose sensitive treatment of inmates leads to a campaign by the authorities Convicted of murder, Norman Parker was a category-A prisoner for most of the 30 years he spent in British jails. While in prison, he gained an Upper-Second Honours degree from the Open University. He is the author of Parkhurst Tales and More Parkhurst Tales.
