Spitting and Screaming Summary

Spitting and Screaming: The Story of the London Pub Rock Scene & 70s British Punk by Neil Saint

'Spitting & Screaming: The Story of The London Pub Rock Scene & 70s British Punk' is rather a grand title. Does it over promise? Who is this guy Neil Saint who calls himself The Saint podcasting and broadcasting his RETROPOPIC RADIO show? If you think that folks then you're wrong... The book represents a thorough investigation of the London Pub Rock and British Punk scene in the seventies from over 50 interviews with the participants themselves. Amongst others the author has spoken to...Sally Jane Delaney, daughter of Tally Ho publican Lillian Delaney, shares memories of listening to the birth of London Pub Rock as 'Eggs Over Easy' play a residency at her home, Steve Conolly, known as Roadent, conveys his direct knowledge of the early punk scene roadying for The Pistols and The Clash, Charlie Harper, founder member of The UK Subs, recounts the very earliest days of The Roxy as punk goes overground in 77 after The Grundy interview and Andrew Lauder, a player in the music scene, informs you how much he disliked The Stranglers before falling in love with them and signing them to UA. Spanning that early to late seventies the book is a must read for the music lover!

About Neil Saint

Although I was born in North London most of my childhood was spent living in the Yeovil area of Somerset. I started out as a School Careers Adviser after graduating from Keele University moving into working with children with Special Needs then onto middle management at The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea before becoming the home carer for my two young children as my wife took on the major earner role. Living in France for awhile whilst learning the language I worked as a voluntary youth worker. One day this crazy English guy thought the youth of France should learn cricket and after setting up an after schools coaching infrastructure in The Charente Maritime I ended up gaining The ICC World Volunteer of The Year Award in 2010, so my name is there in Wisden, the cricketing bible for that year. Wow, my long gone father would be impressed! From France we immigrated to Australia where I gained my MA in primary teaching and since 2017 I have presented RETROPOPIC RADIO based from Sydney's 2RRR community radio station, which I hope I will continue to do as my programs are carefully made rather than broadcasted live. However I also broadcast through Ridge Radio in the UK and AVR in the US. Away from the radio broadcasts I have built up a listener-ship of 58,000 across 140 countries with my podcasts using SOUNDCLOUD & MIXCLOUD platforms: https://www.mixcloud.com/FrenchSpurs1/ The RETROPOPIC RADIO brand focuses on music of the 20th century with each edition guaranteeing an artist interview. RETROPOPIC RADIO is the global home of the great artist interview! I love interviewing and I love music. When you discover your passion in life what do you do? Easy. Embrace it more and more folks. I have interviewed over 400+ musicians in around 3 years so I guess you could say I am pretty focused! I now live in the UK based in York. 'Spitting & Screaming: The Story of The London Pub Rock Scene & 70s British Punk' is my first book for Teddie at New Haven Publishing and, it's a really great book, especially as I interviewed over 50 participants for it. Using a timeline approach it has a lovely flow...well that's what Sarah our editor told me. I hope you will read and enjoy it. Me? I'm thirsty for more...Bring it on!
