Philip Bohlman is Ludwig Rosenberger Distinguished Service Professor in Jewish History at the University of Chicago. He is also Honorarprofessor, Hochschule fur Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover (Germany), and is Elected Corresponding Fellow of the British Academy (2007), and Elected Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2011). He won the Donald Tovey Memorial Prize (with Christine Wilkie Bohlman) in 2009, and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship (2017-18). He is the author and editor of several books, including Jewish Music and Modernity (OUP, 2013) and Resounding Transcendence: Transitions in Music, Ritual, and Religion (co-edited with Jeffers Engelhardt, OUP 2016). He is also the Associate Editor (for ethnomusicology) for Grove Music Online, the general editor of Grove Music in Global Perspective (with Martin Stokes), and is on the Editorial Board of New Cultural History of Music.
