Arne & Carlos Easter Knits Summary

Arne & Carlos Easter Knits: Eggs, Bunnies and Chicks - with a Fabulous Twist by Arne & Carlos

Arne and Carlos, the innovative knitting designers who have given us '55 Christmas Balls to Knit' and 'Knitted Dolls', have now created a wonderful collection of cute and cuddly springtime knits, all in their own inimitable style. With the emphasis placed very firmly on having fun, the dynamic duo provide easy-to-follow patterns for knitted eggs, bunnies, chicks and rabbits, all based on traditional Scandinavian designs. All the projects are quick and easy to make and can be used to decorate the home or to give away as gifts (if you can bear to part with them). Suitable for adults as well as children, you will be enthralled and delighted by the range of projects in the book, all accompanied by fabulous photos, and you will not fail to find something that you just have to knit.

'Easter Knits' by Arne & Carlos is their third book and is a lot of fun. With Easter only weeks away now is the time to start looking for patterns to knit if you want to craft something for family or friends. The basic ball and egg patterns are at the back of the book with the intarsia multi-colour patterns throughout including: six balls, sixteen eggs, one egg cozy, one hen, one bunny and one bunny sweater. The patterns are bursting with bright colour and the pictures are as usual silly and cheerful. Arne & Carlos achieved fame with their books '55 Christmas Balls to Knit' and 'Knitted Dolls with a Designer Wardrobe' which I reviewed in July. A lot of people came round to read it which was nice! I will put a little warning in so you don't get carried away, buy the book and then tear your hair out if you have never been able to master knitting in the round with 4 or 5 needles. All the patterns in this book require this skill so if you have it fine, but if you don't know how to do this be prepared to learn.

This is the third book by those knitting Norwegians to be featured on this site. Check out my reviews for 55 Christmas Balls To Knit and Knitted Dolls in the site archives. Now it is the turn of Easter, and here is a book filled with bunnies, chicks, eggs and more balls, this time with a springtime theme. By now you will be expecting a lushly illustrated book and yep, this is what you get. Pages are filled with large colorful photos of the projects plus gorgeous shots of them amongst Easter themed memorabilia from what must be a treasure trove of a house. The bunnies and chicks are shown in various poses modeling their outfits, and I can imagine many children being inspired for all sorts of games looking at this book. It is rare to find a whole book full of Easter projects so this is a very welcome addition to any knitter's library. Aimed at improvers, (this is not a beginner's book or a book on how to knit) the instructions are mostly in written form with a few charts. There are lots of small projects, eggs, balls and outfits - that make up fast and use up often quite small amounts of yarn, a fun way of recycling and being thrifty. If you live outside Norway you will probably find getting hold of the exact yarns mentioned (Dale of Norway) difficult, but any knitter worth their salt ought to be able to find an alternative. One thing I particularly enjoyed was reading about how Norwegians spend Easter, a holiday when snow is still on the ground in many places and just before the onset of spring. I look forward to this duo?s next book.

This quirky book is a true delight, with a strong Scandinavian theme. That's not surprising because authors Arne and Carlos are Scandinavian, and they write in their preface 'We Scandinavians are peculiar people' referring to their love of the snow and the cold. Easter Knits has a simple narrative running through it, which gives it a childlike charm. The projects themselves are also fairly simple, being mostly variations of Easter eggs and Easter ball decorations with differing patterns inspired by nature, traditional sources and even Faberge eggs. The Easter bunny is a gorgeous character with his pom-pom tail. The hen is also very endearing with crocheted feathers on her wings, not forgetting the cute egg cosy sweaters too. All the projects are beautifully photographed against stylish Scandinavian decor.
