It shows the world through Ripley's eyes as something that is wonderful and weird, awesome in its variety, jaw dropping in its uniqueness. This book juxtaposes the quirky, bizarre, outrageous world of people with the pure fascination of the natural and physical world including: Off The Wall - eccentric lifestyles, quirky style of living, people living in unusual places, and the most bizarre jobs, careers, holidays; Cold, Hard Cash People who have paid inconceivable amounts of money for items, lifestyle, surgery etc, people who have paid incredibly sums for their pets (e.g. 'the seeing eye pampered dog -$4,500 paid by owners of Pomeranian to have its eyesight restored with ground-breaking surgery); anything for love - obsessions, fanatics and devotees - people who have gone that step too far in their devotion to an idol (famous) or item (building on the gnome man; how far will some people go for someone or something they love? It also includes Marathon Effort - people who have made monumental journeys (developing from the epic journeys section of Beyond Belief); epic travelogs, unbelievable endurance on a travel excursion, bizarre and crazy modes of transport (building on the weird cargo theme), and animals who have made an epic journey back home after moving; Prove It! - people who have gone to the ends of the Earth (literally) to prove something; All-consuming - people who have performed crazy stunts with food; food festivals - superlatives (biggest pizza, longest sausage etc.)

About Robert Le Roy Ripley

Robert Leroy Ripley was the man behind the Ripley brand - a journalist, radio presenter and cartoonist, who was fascinated by the oddities of everyday life. He was also passionate about travel and by 1940 had, at the age of 40 he had visited 201 countries. Combining these two interests he developed his own radio show - broadcast all over the world, even from underwater and snake pits, and also produced many cartoons, books, TV shows and film shorts. He was voted the most popular man in America in 1936, and his brand continued to develop even after his death in 1949. It is now enjoying a huge resurgence through the advent of the internet and through publication of Ripley's Believe It Or Not.
