This is a collection of interviews which recall the experience of cinema-going in the golden age of cinema. This illustrated text concentrates on reminiscences of the cinemas of Lambeth, Wandsworth, Southwark and adjacent areas. It provides recollections of great cinemas like the Astorias in Brixton and Streatham, as well as fleapits and old music halls. There are childhood stories of Saturday morning pictures, of fan magazines, favourite stars and films. These memories reveal the experience of cinema-going in the silent era, during the Blitz, and during the 3-D vogue in the 1950s.
