Horses in Company Summary

Horses in Company by Lucy Rees

Horses in Company is a radically new analysis of horse social behaviour that opens the way towards a better understanding of horses on both ethological and practical levels. Based on first-hand observations of wild horses and their evolutionary need for collective defence against predators, it shows how domestic life distorts horses' natural social relations, encouraging misinterpretation, mistreatment and human-horse problems.

About Lucy Rees

Lucy Rees has studied equine ethology for many years, and has observed the behaviour of wild and feral horses in places as diverse as the USA, Australia, Spain and South America. She is based in Spain where she keeps Pottoka horses, the native breed of the Basque country. Lucy frequently lectures in universities through Europe and Latin America and runs courses promoting 'natural' methods of horsemanship.
