Helen Stevenson grew up in the north of England, the daughter of a grammar-school headmaster, and studied Modern Languages at Oxford University. She worked as a literary agent and editor before moving to a small town between the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees, where she wrote her first novel. She divides her time between London and the south of France.
