About Christopher Ham

Chris Ham joined the Health Services Management Centre at The University of Birmingham in 1992 and became Director in 1993. He is involved in a range of work including consultancy, teaching and research. Within the UK, he works closely with Health Authorities and NHS Trusts on the implementation of the NHS reforms. He has a particular interest in the development of commissioning and has undertaken projects on GP involvements in commissioning, locality sensitive commissioning, joint commissioning and priority setting. He has also worked with NHS Trusts on a number of issues including the development of the contracting system and the involvement of clinicians in management. Chris has a long standing interest in the role of board chairmen and members and continues to run seminars in this area and to facilitate timeout sessions for individual boards. His research interests include priority setting in health services, the use of guidelines to promote more effective health care delivery, and health care reform in the international context.
