About Frances Hodgson Burnett

Frances Hodgson Burnett was born in Manchester in 1849 but moved to Tennessee in 1865 when her family fell on hard times. There she began writing stories to earn money and soon became a successful novelist, playwright and children's author of such well-loved works as Little Lord Fauntleroy and A Little Princess. She maintained houses in England and the USA and wrote The Secret Garden in her Long Island, New York, home.
