A detailed account of a genus of plants grown on both sides of the Atlantic for their beautiful and varied foliage, particularly now that a prolific number of good cultivars are available. In the introduction the author describes the geographical distribution of Hostas, their history and botanical structure. Two major reference sections follow - firstly the species are covered, with botanical descriptions; secondly an account of cultivars, clones and spores is given. After full guidance on Hosta cultivation there are chapters devoted specifically to Hostas in landscape gardening, amateur gardening, flower arrangement and container growing.
