The nine contributors to this book - all members of the teaching staff at the Institute of Education - subject the National Curriculum policy to urgent critical examination. They assess its chances of achieving the Government's aims of providing "a better education". The contributors look in vain to the new proposal for an intellectually satisfying account of the general aims of education and with concern at the changes to the character of school education which may ensue.
