Dr Michael Willis specialises in the contemporary politics of Algeria and North Africa. He obtained his doctorate from the Centre for Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at the University of Durham, where he is currently an Honorary Research Associate. His other publications include 'The Islamist Movements of North Africa' in Niblock, Joffe and Aliboni (eds.), Security Challenges in the Mediterranean Region; and 'Algeria's Troubled Road Toward Political and Economic Liberalization' in Nonneman (ed.), Political and Economic Liberalization: Dynamics and Linkages in Comparative Perspective.
