"Over a fifty-year career, Julian Mitchell has written novels, plays for stage and television, and films. His novel The Undiscovered Country (1968) was reissued in 2010. His best-known stage play is Another Country (1981, film 1984), and his most recent film was Wilde (1997). Among his many original television plays are Shadow in the Sun (Emmy 1971), Abide With Me (International Critics' Prize, Monte Carlo and US Humanities Award, 1977) and Consenting Adults (BBC/Lion T V, 2007), for which he won the Best Writing Award at the Scottish BAFTA Awards 2007. He first adapted The Good Soldier (published by Oberon Books) for television in 1980, and among many other adaptations have been The Weather in the Streets and Staying On. He also wrote ten episodes of Inspector Morse. He is also a local historian and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London. His play Family Business (Watford Palace Theatre, 2011) is also published by Oberon Books."
