David Palumbo-Liu is Associate Professor of Comparative Literature at Stanford University. He is the editor of The Ethnic Canon: Histories, Institutions, Interventions (1995). Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht is Albert Guerard Professor of Literature in the Department of Comparative Literature and French and Italian at Stanford University. He is the co-editor (with K. Ludwig Pfeiffer) of Materialities of Communication (Stanford, 1994).
