In 1946 the young George Greenfield was contemplating what to do with his six months' paid leave when he bumped into a friends whose father had recently acquired a small publishing house and needed someone to run it. There followed decades of service as a literary agent, during which he negotiated rights deals for leading names in publishing and entertainment, including Stirling Moss, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, John le Carre, Sidney Sheldon, David Niven and Jilly Cooper. These memoirs recall his 50 years in the publishing world.
