Private Palaces: Life in the Great London Houses Christopher Simon Sykes
In this study combining architectural and social history, the author describes the great town houses, largely built in the 17th century, where the aristocracy and millionaires lived lives of lavish ostentation. It provides an insight into a world that is now lost. The author also wrote The Rolling Stones, The Visitor's Book, Country House Camera, Black Sheep, Ancient English Houses and co-authored English Front-Gardens.
