The author, Malcolm Penny, is a zoologist and conservationist. He has taken part in expeditions to the Indian Ocean, and he used to work at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. He is now a script-writer and producer of wildlife television programmes. The consultant, Carol Inskipp, has an MSc in ecology and works as a writer and researcher in environmental education.
